Baccarat: where does it come from
Let’s go to the roots of the most popular card games in the world. Over the years, Baccarat has become a great classic in gambling halls and Live Casinos, as well as being the protagonist of numerous epic cinema scenes. There is a hypothesis that this game was imported from Italy to France during the reign of Charles VIII, (in power from 1483 to 1498). The aim has always been mainly to win as much money as possible by taking it away from other pointers.
This game of chance has come a long way in history, and modern Baccarat brings this game to online platforms as well. It must be said that Baccarat games have maintained the reputation of a game for the elite - for a type of high-level player. The figures that passed on its tables have always been very high since the beginning. It was the main reason to create another version that would allow lower bets and involve a broader segment of the public - the Mini Baccarat. And it was the right choice! The introduction of this mini version in online casinos increased the number of fans. Everybody wants to experience the thrill of real money baccarat.
There are 2 main protagonists in this game: the baccarat live dealer and the pointer. However, a large number of bettors (up to 14) can intervene at each bet. They can bet on the winner, the defeat of the pointer, or on a draw. There are at least 2 pointers In the deux tableaux version.
Variations: play baccarat online in different modes
Baccarat is a gambling title gaining incredible success in casinos, despite its rules not allowing a real intervention by the player. Thus, a player must rely almost exclusively on his own luck. There are three most influential versions of online baccarat: Punto Banco (or North American, the one played in casinos), Chemin de Fer, and A 'Deux Tableaux.
The Punto Banco version involves the use of 4, 6 or 8 decks of French cards (hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades) of 52, excluding jokers. In Chemin de Fer, the most popular variant in France (so-called because the cards were placed in an iron box), 6 decks of French cards are used, while in the two-tableaux version (or wings, in Italian) the number of decks varies, although basically 3 are used.
Live baccarat: how to play
This game does not have strict rules like Blackjack. Instead, the instructions are quite schematic and the difference between various versions includes only greater or lesser freedom of choice of the pointer. The basic version implies that the croupier, or baccarat live dealer, shuffles the decks and then deals two cards to the pointer and two to himself, all face down. When you have your 2 cards, you need to calculate the sum of these cards by the following principles: each figure is worth 10, while the numbers are worth their numeral value. Keep in mind that only the units must be considered as a result. So if the cards are for example a 9 and a 3, the result is 9 + 3 = 12 = 2, or if the cards are a 6 and a 4, the result is 6+ 4 = 10 = 0 (called Baccarat). When the pointer and the dealer have calculated the value of their cards, it’s time to compare the results. If one of the two has totalled 8 or 9 (result called natural), the hands are revealed and whoever has totalled the highest score wins (in case of a tie the game is tied). If none managed to reach a natural, the game continues in accordance with the following rules:
If the pointer gathered a 6 or a 7, he draws no cards. On the contrary, if his result is lower, he will receive another one, this time uncovered. Now it’s time for the dealer to act. His actions depend on the value of his cards and can include:
- If his result is 7, he stands and draws no cards;
- If his result is 6, he draws a card if the pointer's up card is a 6 or a 7;
- If his result is 5, he draws a card if the pointer's face-up card is 4, 5, 6 or 7;
- If his result is 4, he draws a card if the face up card of the pointer has a value from 2 to 7;
- If his result is 3, he draws a card unless the one revealed by the pointer is an 8 or a 9;
- If his result is 2, 1 or Baccarat, he always draws a card.
Now let’s discover another famous version - Chemin de Fer. Here, the players arrange themselves in a circle, all shuffle the cards one after the other, and the game begins. The baccarat live dealer scrolls counterclockwise each game, one after another. Once the dealer has bet a value, all the fun begins. The gamblers who bet the same amount can participate in the game, unless one decides to "go bank" (this way, he will only play against the dealer). At this point, the dealer deals 4 cards: 2 for himself and 2 in common for all the other gamblers. Firstly, whoever has bet the highest amount, or, in case of equal bets, whoever is to the left of the dealer. Now both the gambler and then the dealer decide whether it is worth drawing another card (now they do not have to comply with the rules already set out for Punto Banco). The role of the dealer goes to the other hands only if the dealer loses, in which case the game continues like this.
In the two-winged version, the players decide themselves where to sit: to the right or to the left of the dealer. When everybody's ready, the cards are dealt: two to the right wing, two to the left, and two to the dealer. Whatever wing you choose, you can bet either on your own wing, on the other, or on both, putting money in the center. The rules play out as mentioned, and in the end, the dealer greets you with the winnings (you get immediately on your account) or withdraws the losses. There are special rules for those betting for the center:
- If both wings win or lose, then the player wins or loses as well;
- If one wing wins and the other loses, the bet remains "frozen" in the center of the table for the next game;
- If one wing wins and the other ties, as well as if one and the other draw, then the player wins or loses half of his bet. The other half remains frozen in the center.
Note: if the pointer or the baccarat live dealer reaches 8 or 9 with the first two cards, this value wins over even higher scores achieved with the third card.
